
Korean Community Outreach Assistant
NAMI-Santa Clara County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental health conditions. We provide free culturally responsive support groups, education programs, presentations, and community outreach. As part of our Jeongsin Geongang Program, we are expanding our capacity to serve the Korean-speaking community through targeted outreach, education, and stigma-reduction efforts.
Job Description:
The Korean Community Outreach Assistant will help expand awareness and participation in NAMI’s Korean-language programs through culturally tailored outreach and engagement. This position mirrors the broader duties of NAMI-SCC’s Outreach Coordinator but is dedicated exclusively to outreach within the Korean community. Responsibilities include community engagement, seminar support, outreach tracking, and partnership-building aligned with the deliverables of the KACF community grant.
This role is crucial for increasing visibility of mental health resources, reducing stigma, and connecting Korean-speaking community members to NAMI’s support programs
Key Responsibilities:
Community Outreach & Relationship Building:

- Conduct outreach to Korean churches, senior centers, cultural organizations, community associations, small businesses, and Korean media outlets.
- Promote NAMI’s Korean-language programs, including support groups, Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer, FaithNet seminars, and community education workshops.
- Build trusted relationships with Korean community leaders to support stigma-reduction efforts.
- Attend and represent NAMI-SCC at Korean community events, health fairs, and cultural gatherings.
Program & Seminar Support (KACF Grant Obligations):

- Assist in planning and carrying out Korean-language mental health seminars and workshops required by the KACF grant.
- Coordinate seminar logistics, including scheduling, speaker support, participant communication, room/tech needs, and distribution of materials.
- Conduct targeted outreach to ensure strong attendance at seminars and workshops.
- Help develop or adapt Korean-language outreach materials and distribute them through community channels (KakaoTalk groups, Korean churches, Korean social media, bulletin boards, newspapers, etc.).
- Track seminar outcomes such as attendance, demographics, participant engagement, and feedback.
- Support ongoing engagement with participants after seminars to connect them with NAMI’s programs and resources.
- Work closely with the Korean Family Support group members.
Tracking, Reporting & Evaluation:

- Accurately track all outreach activities using NAMI’s reporting tools (presentations, contacts, partner meetings, seminar attendance, etc.).
- Submit regular updates to the Outreach Coordinator to support grant reporting and internal data needs.
- Collect outreach metrics required by the KACF grant, including seminar outputs, participation numbers, and outreach reach.
- Maintain organized records to support mid-year and final grant reporting.
Collaboration & Internal Support:

- Work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to align Korean outreach efforts with NAMI-SCC’s overall outreach strategy.
- Coordinate with program staff to ensure participants from outreach events receive referrals to support groups, education classes, or peer programs.
- Support special events or projects as needed to enhance NAMI-SCC’s presence in the Korean community.
Qualifications:
Required:

- Fluency in Korean (spoken and written).
- Lived experience with mental health challenges (self or family).
- Completion of at least one NAMI education program (Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer, Basics, Provider) or willingness to complete one shortly after hire.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills within Korean cultural contexts.
- Ability to engage sensitively with individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.
- Comfort speaking in community settings and conducting outreach.
- Ability to track and report outreach activity using NAMI data tools.
- Self-directed, organized, and able to manage time effectively.
Preferred:

- Experience in community outreach, mental health work, social services, or nonprofit environments.
- Familiarity with Korean American community structures, faith organizations, and cultural norms.
- Experience assisting with events, workshops, or seminars.
- Prior volunteer or peer leadership experience.
Compensation & Hours:

- $25 per hour
- 15 hours per week (some evenings/weekends may be required based on community events)
