NAMI Santa Clara County, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is hosting NAMIWalks Your Way Silicon Valley on October 10th from 10:00-11:00 AM.
Every year since 2016, NAMIWalks entertained over 1,200 visitors for a 5k at Guadalupe Park in San Jose, CA. It is a day to celebrate the milestones in mental health, the lives we’ve lost to mental illness, and the community’s drive to stay strong, seek help, and fight the stigma.
NAMIWalks Your Way Silicon Valley is the virtual remake of this amazing event. Instead of meeting at Guadalupe Park, we are meeting virtually for live and pre-recorded activities. Participants can tune into our Youtube livestream for our Keynote Speaker, Reverend Jason Reynolds, a word from our Honorary Chair, Assembly Member Kansen Chu and much more.
Guests will also turn to NAMI Santa Clara County Youtube channel to find a pre-recorded playlists to enjoy at their convenience. We are offering a mixture of music, exercises, stories from local heroes and mental health advocates, and classes like self defense and “How to Explain Mental Health in Spanish.” Guests can pick and choose what entertainment and activity to enjoy or do something entirely up to them. The beauty of this event is that it is all YOUR WAY. However you want to spend your Walk day is up to you. You can walk around your neighborhood, host a virtual yoga class with friends, or make arts and crafts with family.
NAMI Santa Clara County is proud to join 50 other NAMIWalks around the country on October 10th, to coin the “National Day of Hope.” Mental health is needed now more than ever in a time of economic uncertainty, medical and natural disasters, and racial tragedies. NAMI is here to help with programs and mental health resources at no cost to the individual. The money raised by this event will be allocated to keeping these programs alive so our community can receive the support it deserves.
